Inspiration: The apartment

The bf and I are looking for a new apartment, but we have promised ourselves to really start looking when we’re back from vacationing. I must say, I find it terribly hard to not look at houses and apartment, certainly when you find pics like these. Of course, I know there’s no way in hell we’ll be able to afford such a nice place or even furnish it so beautifully but hey, a girl can dream right?

And there’s always DIY-design, there must be a way to at least DIY one of the things from these pictures…

Inspiration: Embroidery + drawings

I recently discovered this great artist who combines embroidery with pencil drawings and watercolour. I must admit, I have a giant soft spot for mixed media art, I love it when two, at first sight totally different thing, become one. And this one, i must say, takes the cake! Seeing how embroidery (and other old fashioned handywork like knitting) is on a come back, I just love to see how people use their imagination to take these crafts and take them out of context.

I love it. See for yourself, I’ll bet you you’ll love it too!

DIY: Sliced shades

Oh wow, I’m so sorry its been such a long time since my last post! I could give you a thousand excuses but I won’t. Instead I’ll share this AWESOME DIY with you. To make it up.

It looks so easy and when you’ve finished, it looks so fab! Enjoy :)

What you’ll need:

Sunglasses
A marker able to write on plastic (preferably not permanent)
A small hacksaw
A file
Optional: Matte nailpolish

Step 1:

Place your glasses on a flat surface and, by using your marker, mark how much you want you cut off the glasses. Try it on to see if it matches the shape of your face. When you found the perfect shape, use the hacksaw to cut through the frame of the glasses. Don’t cut the glass!

Step 2:

Click the glass out of your shades and use the file to soften the edges of the frame you just cut. If you want, you can now use the matte nailpolish to put a nice coat on your shades.

Step 3:

Use the file to file the glass of your shades straight from the bottom, untill they fit in the cut-off frame of your shades. When they are nicely filed to the right size, you can use a little lijm to pop them back in the frame. Wait an hour and voilá, one unique pair of shades!

Inspiration: Washi tape

I guess everyone on Pinterest shares this love with me; Washi tape. Colorful masking tape which you can use for basicly anything and everything. I’m dying to use Washi tape in my house, and there’s always room for more inspiration in my head. So I went out (well, no, I stayed put behind the computer) and found myself some Washi inspiration.

Now I’m even more dying to wrap everything in Washi tape!

Inspiration: Dream house in a former oil factory

SO I found this incredible dream house. It’s actually a former oil factory and it’s located it the ever so fairytale-like Frence Provence. I think there’s nothing in this entire house I don’t absolutely love with all my heart, and I’m not afraid to admit I’m super jealous. I mean, living in such an awesome, old building, which is decorated in this beautiful way AND live in the Provence…?

Who wouldn’t be jealous, right? Oh and that pool! Wow.

DIY: Lamps

I have a sudden obsession with lamps. I think a nice (large) lamp can really set the mood of a room, whether it’s on or off. And seeing I apparently have a taste for really, really expensive lamps, I have been searching for nice DIY lamps. I found several, although not all of them have a great set on instructions (or any instructions at all). I’m planning on trying to make at least one of them, and will post a detailed DIY for that one…

All I have to decide now is which one to make.. Which is your favorite?

Fashion: The jeans short

An item I think almost every girl (and boy!) has laying in her closet; the jeans short. I love mine, although I have multiple I have this one that’s really my favorite. But I find myself almost always combining the same kind of top, the same kind of shoes, the same kind of accessoires and so on. I decided I wanted to combine my short with other things, so I can form many different outfits. But sadly, I’m lacking in inspiration…

Inspiration: Defaced photographes

Sometimes you find something and you can’t help but wonder; why didn’t I think of something like this? Today I found the website of Jen Gotch, who takes polaroids of everyday things and writes on them. I guess she writes what she’s thinking right then and there, but it’s not really explained anywhere… I do love these pics, because they are so raw and weird. They make you think different about the things you see on a daily base. And I love when things do that.
